Hi! I’m Ash, an Australian travel & lifestyle photographer. I’m currently based in Amsterdam, where I live with my husband Karan

I love to explore.

I’ve lived on 4 continents and have explored over 40 countries; documenting the places I’ve been and the people I’ve met along the way. I grew up in rural Australia and have been lucky to call many places home ever since; including Malmö, Melbourne, New York, Tokyo and Amsterdam.

I’ve always taken pictures.

I’ve been a photographer ever since I was given my first film camera as a child. I studied photography at university in both Australia and Sweden. Since then, I’ve worked as a freelance photographer; with a focus on travel and lifestyle imagery. Common themes in my work include food, interiors, architecture, landscapes, crafts and people. In other lives I also work as an art director, digital strategist and language educator.

My focus on Japan.

During the years I lived in Tokyo, I travelled extensively and visited all 47 prefectures across the country. There are many areas that are under threat from depopulation, so my focus was documenting these far corners. I met with locals; artisans, chefs, innkeepers and more; documenting their lives, spaces and landscapes along the way. I’m currently developing this into a full body of work for publishing.

So, where have I been?

This portfolio features only a small selection of my work. If you’re looking for imagery from a particular location, my travel archives include photos from the following countries:

Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Denmark, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States, Vatican City

Want to work together?

Have a project we could collaborate on? I may be based in Amsterdam, but I’m always willing to travel (of course!) Drop me a line and let me know what you have in mind.
